Vintage WINCHESTER #3030 Fore Wood Plane, 18”, Corrugated, Used: This vintage WINCHESTER #3030 Fore Plane is in very good condition. There are no cracks or broken pieces except for the top nub on the wooden handle. The rest of the handle and front knob are in very good condition. This plane is 18” long and 2-7/8” wide. It has the #3030 on a raised rectangle situated on the body behind the frog. The plane blade and the cap both are marked “WINCHESTER TRADE MARK”. There is some surface rust on this plane which we have not touched. We do not clean or refurbish vintage tools that we sell as we leave those decisions up to the eventual buyer. About 60% of the black Japaning remains on the plane body. The plane body is not marked “WINCHESTER” on the raised rectangle behind the front knob, but the raised #3030 identifies it as so. According to our research this plane was made by Sargent, as WINCHESTER had contracts with tool manufacturers. Winchester tools were made after WWI as a way of utilizing existing facilities and keeping people working. Their entry into the tool market was not successful and they stopped manufacturing or contracting for manufacture in the late 1920’s. We believe that this is a completely authentic WINCHESTER plane.
