Description
This authentic 1918 U.S. Engineer Department compass, manufactured by W.& L. E. Gurley of Troy, New York, is a rare World War I-era precision navigation instrument. Gurley was a major supplier of surveying and engineering tools for the U.S. military during the Great War.
The compass features a solid mahogany wood case with brass hinges and hardware, clearly stamped:
U.S. Engineer Department – W.& L.E. Gurley – Troy, N.Y. – 1918
The interior dial remains legible, and the magnetic needle is intact and responsive. This piece would have been carried by military engineers for field surveying, mapmaking, and tactical construction during WWI.
Perfect for collectors of militaria, surveying instruments, or early 20th-century engineering tools.
