Vintage Goodell Pratt Two-Speed Breast Drill with Leather Strap Breast Plate, Used: This drill, appears to be a No. 20 Breast Drill, however there are some discrepancies. The only marking that we can find is on the chuck itself (“GOODELL PRATT COMPANY GREENFIELD MASS. U.S.A PAT AUG. 13, 1895”). We have not cleaned or lubricated the body or any parts of this drill except for the chuck. The chuck has all three jaws and springs. We lubricated the 3 jaws and no other parts of the drill. The jaws close in alignment, however they do not open correctly and when we took the chuck apart, it appeared that the flat topped mushroom component that pushes the jaws forward is either worn or not the correct piece. The drill does have the leather breast plate, the swivel crank handle and the ½” three jaw spring type keyless chuck. It also has the 2 speed spring loaded adjuster. It does not have the D-type side handle, but rather a fixed riveted handle that might have been a replacement. The gears are in good condition. You can still see the red paint on the drive gear and its handle. However it has a scaly finish from dirt and grime. The hard steel cone and ball bearings that the spindle rides on are intact, but very worn. It appears that all of the balls are in the bearing cup. This vintage drill is a work in progress, but with some TLC it will be a fine addition to a collection or a vintage workshop. This drill is sold with the Kent’s Tools 30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee.
